Art Camp 2011 Staff Bios!

Director
Monica Herber - Monica has been the Columbia Association Art Camp Director for 8 consecutive summers.  She is currently working full time as a youth and daytime program coordinator for the Columbia Art Center.  She has a degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech and is a professional painter.  Monica is inspired by camper's aptitude and love of art and being creative.  She also enjoys the sense of team created each summer with her staff members.


Counselors
Grace Freund - Having volunteered at Howard County Center for the Arts during their summer camp as well as time working at the YMCA camp in Ellicott City, Grace is fully ready for the CA Art Camp experience.  She loves working with kids and looks forward to building positive relationships with both the campers and her co-workers.  She is currently enrolled at University of Maryland College Park pursuing a degree in Psychology.


Michael Leviski - Michael, an experienced YMCA counselor, is looking forward to learning more about teaching children to express themselves through art.  He also looks forward to learning new group management methods and improving his leadership skills.


Dann Malihom - An experienced computer artist and math tutor, Dann is a passionate artist that enjoys contributin to the community.  He enjoys working on a team and is always looking for new opportunities to put his talents to good use.


Hiroko Nishimura - Hiroko has dedicated copious amounts of time volunteering to work with children.  She has gained a variety of experience tutoring in different studies and is currently studying at University of Maryland, College Park for a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education.  She is eager to continue to gain even more experience and bring her knowledge and enthusiasm to art camp.


Ryan Smith - Ryan is familiar with the art center facilities, having volunteered in the Ceramics studio, and is experienced in teaching art in a home school setting.  Her creative energy and interest in teachnig has drawn her to the CA Art Camp and she anticipates being inspired by the campers and fellow counselors.


Kimberly Woods - Kimberly is pursuing a Master's in Elementary Education at Loyola University of Maryland and is invested in gaining a dynamic perspective on children and how to best work with them.  She is eager to join the CA Art Camp team and to expand her knowledge of classroom management.


Specialists
Meghan Brown - Meghan is an Elementary Education major who has just graduated from Mount Saint Mary's College.  She hopes to become a third grade teacher and is amazing with children.  This is Meghan's fourth summer at CA Art Camp.  She is an incredible Art Camp team member and beloved by all her campers.


Stacey Cohen - A recenty graduate of Towson University with a degree in Art Education, Stacey is passionate about working with children.  She says that in her classroom she teaches People not Pupils.  She hopes that her hardworking spirit and creative talents will promote intellectual, personal, and artistic growth in the campers.


Allison Hart - An experienced art teacher, Allison works with children all school year to generate beautiful art while grasping challenging concepts.  In an effort to continue connecting with and education students to share her love of art she is joining the art camp team to strengthen her own classroom as well as bring new ideas to our camp.


Danielle Imhoff - Danielle is an Art Education Major at Towson University and is excited to build upon her education with valuable camp experiences.  Having worked as a tutor and a lifeguard she is familiar with challenging but rewarding situations.  She hopes to inspire campers to think creatively.


Chris Kinslow - An experiened School Age Services employee and theater enthusiast Chris is excited to bring the performing arts to the CA Art Camp.  He aims to hone his abilities as a creative educator as well as a performer.


Shannon Townsend - Shannon is a veteran camp counselor with many years of experience.  She graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art last year and is returning in the fall for her Masters in Education.  She is a fabulous artist and she knows great camp songs!


Floater
Manique Buckmon -  Manique is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park majoring in Art History.  She is most interested in African American, Native American, and Pre-Columbian studies and hopes to one day explore historical sites in Mexico, Africa and other places of the world.  She loves to paint and sculpt and is motivated by working with kids and serving the local and international community.


Junior Counselor
Katie Bailey - This year will be Katie's second as the Art Camp Junior Counselor.  Her amazing organizational skills, teamwork, and readiness to support the staff are an indispensable asset to the art camp team.  She is fantastic with campers and co-workers!


Extended Care
Debbie HeilmannDebbie is our Extended Care Director for Art Camp 2011.  She is currently pursuing her AAS degree at Howard Community College and has extensive experience working with children.  At one time Debbie ran her own family daycare and currently works for the School Age Services Before and After Care program in Howard County. 


Madeleine Boyes - Madeleine is a recent high school graduate that has worked as a stage manager during plays at Oakland Mills High School and is also trained as a Peer Mediator.  She can't wait to attend a summer camp as a counselor and loves working with kids.


Jayde McWilliams - Jayde, a recent Oakland Mills High School graduate, is looking forward to a rewarding summer in the art camp setting.  She has assisted with running activities for children before and is eager to gain more experience before going off to college.


Tanya Milward - Tanya, a Towson University student pursuing her Masters in Secondary Education, is a CA School Age Services teacher and group leader.  Her experience in graphic design as well as her work with children has made her a natural fit for art camp.
